Brief interview with Atonement

Sweden is known as a breeding place of metal music. Big names such as Hammerfall and Sabaton have conquered the world. But all bands and artists had to start somewhere.
One of those new and promising acts is called Atonement. A three piece outfit of young guns that brings black/trash metal to the block! Hailing from Sweden, Atonement was founded during the corona pandemic and they have been working hard to released their debut EP named Merciless Blasphemy. About this release and some other things I had a nice little chat with Atonement!

Hey, thanks for taking the time for an interview with Maizter Underground! How are you doing? Covid and all.

We are all doing great! Yet we have survived this shitty plague!

How did the band came to exist?

It all started with Ludvig And Mille. They knew each other because they went to the same school and they both really wanted to start a band. In the autumn of 2020 the hunt for members started and in December the same year they found Niklas who completed the three man line-up.

What are the (long time) goals for Atonement?

That’s a tough question! Right now we are starting to plan things in order to record a full length album, but most of all we really want to get out and play more shows.

You guys call yourself Atonement. How did you come up with this name and what does it mean?

Mille was scrolling around great albums from the mighty Sodom. On the album Persecution Mania there’s a song called My Atonement which he later looked up online if there were any bands called Atonement and there wasn’t. Some weeks later he saw in his search history that he typed Atonement wrong and it actually existed some bands called it. But we had already decided about the name Atonement.

Are there are singles/ an album coming up?

We are at the moment working with things that could be new stuff.

Do you have any festivals/gigs/shows planned?

Yes, as usual some small club shows here around the Stockholm area. Recently we got asked if we want to play at a big festival here in Sweden called December Darkness, The line-up consists of big act’s such as Marduk, Wormwood and Djevel to name a few.

That’s really great! We will keep an eye out for Atonement! For now, I want to thank you guys for your time! And on behalf of everyone at Maizter Underground, we want to wish Atonement all the best with all you take on in the future!
