Brief interview with Melting Eyes

What started out as a random meeting between friends back in 2016, turned into a Death Metal band a year later. Originated in The Netherlands, this four piece outfit brings Death Metal to its listeners the way it supposed to be! After releasing their debut EP named My Final Resting Place, Melting Eyes finally got time on stage after covid restrictions where lifted! About the album, time on stage and some other things I had a talk with Melting Eyes!

Hey, thanks for taking the time for an interview with Maizter Underground! How are you doing? Covid and all.

Ben: Youre welcome! We just did our first show in a year, it was the release party of our debut CD/EP. During the lockdowns we were not able to play live and practice, so we were really glad to be back on stage.

How did the band came to exist?

Marc: in 2016 at a surprise gig of Gruesome in Amsterdam. Then me and Ben, at that time guitar player of Deathhammer, met again and started Melting Eyes a year later. In the same year I also got in contact with Angelo again, who was playing drums in a rock cover band at that time. Angelo wanted to play bass with Melting Eyes so that was a simple choice. I didn’t know Pier our singer/guitarist yet, but after searching for a singer we quickly found out that Pier was the right man for the job. And so after 4 years we have become very good friends, which makes playing and writing the songs very easy and always have a lot of fun.

Can you introduce the band-members one by one?

Marc v. d Meer: Drums
Pier Segaar: Vocals and Guitar
Angelo Verlaan: Bass
Ben Ubert: Guitar

You guys call yourself Melting Eyes . How did you come up with this name and what does it mean?

Ben: it refers to my illness, I suffer from Cluster Headaches. In the bad periods it’s like one of my eyes is melting down from my head. Visualising this gives a gory, painful picture, which of course is suitable for an old school death metal band.

Can you tell me something about the journey this far? Where did the creativity came from for your first “own work” and who (if any) did inspire you?

Ben :First off all we just like playing old school death metal and every member has its own inspiration and also input in the songs. Certainly Death (US) Chuck Schuldiner (R.i.p.) and Asphyx, later on also Gruesome (Matt Harvey)
Marc: Nicko McBrain, Alex Marquez, Gene Hoglan, Bolt Thrower, Malevolent Creation, Disincarnate, Cannibal Corpse, Obituary ect ect.

What are the (longtime) goals with Melting Eyes?

Ben: first goals are now get more known in the underground scene, do more gigs and festivals and hopefully finding a label

Are there are singles/ an album coming up?

For the moment we have nothing planned, we just released the EP My Final Resting Place. We start writing for the new album soon.

Do you have any festivals/gigs/shows planned?

Next gig will be in Volkel (NL) with Klont!

Ok! Thats something to look forward too! For now I want to thank you guys for your time! On behalf of everyone at Maizter Underground we want to wish you guys all the luck with all you take on in the future!
