Nocean – Aurora: The Weight of A Shadow

Nocean is a cinematic metal band based in Stockholm, Sweden. Recently they have released their 3rd album named Aurora:The Weight of A Shadow which is a concept gothic metal album. To promote their brand-new album Nocean is now touring Sweden until the end of January 2022. I will come back with a review of the show Nocean will play at the 28th of January in Norrköping, Sweden.

Something is saying me that this show is going to be spectacular!

The album has a red thread, Aurora’s story! It is a bit like getting a fantasy series of books combined into one album. Hanna Olsson is our “cicerone” who tells her story with her beautiful voice. She has a great range and a nerve in her vocals. It goes from vulnerable to complete strength.

The music is really in harmony with the story and it feels a bit like Nocean built everything around Hanna’s voice. I get a sublime movie in my head whilst listening to the album. Quickly two songs stand out to me as favourites, namely The Prisoner and Forgotten.

The members have an interest for movies and it shines through! This could really be an epic soundtrack to a movie. Maybe it is that feeling that gives me high expectations for the upcoming show, with the promise that the show shall have theatrical and cinematic parts.

The music, and Hanna’s voice are giving me vibes of Evanescence, Within Temptation and  If they are just as good as on the album or better, the show really will be a bulls-eye hit!

Since Nocean started, back in 2013, they have changed some members. However, they now feel like they have a solid foundation to work on. It showed when they played at Sweden Rock Festival 2017, with a good response.

After that Nocean thought they needed to do something different to get noticed, and after all was said and done, they made a 360 degrees video and uploaded it on social media where people started to share it a lot aiding to their popularity.

2021 was the year when they played at a covid-adjusted concert for the charity foundation Live to Win, which was founded by Emil Näsström from Swedish groove metallers Saved by Insanity.

Check out Nocean’s tour plan and explore the magic! I am certain that this is a band we will hear a lot from in the future!

Yours truly!

Stina
