Brief interview with Battle Symphony

Hailing from Greece Battle Symphony is a metal opera project created by Greek journalist and author, Nikos Tzouannis. The music of Battle Symphony is pure heavy metal combined with genres as folk and classical music. Their upcoming debut concept album presents the sci-fi story of the conflict between the rebellion human army against the human and alien inhabitants of Planet Earth. About time to talk to Battle Symphony to learn more about these new and coming band!

Hey, thanks for taking the time for an interview with Maizter Underground! How are you doing? Covid and all.

Hi from sunny Greece! Thank God, everything is going well. Health, safe and sound!

How did the band come to exist?

It was an idea I had during the first period of Covid quarantine. Something that I was thinking for a long time, but never had the time to try. Well I found the time and everything went so naturally. I started to compose the music, then found the right people for the project and Battle Symphony come to life! I was lucky enough to have on my side the singer of Illusory, Dee Theodorou, a friend who helped me find my “way” on the metal scene and done everything from his side to fulfil my dream. Then Grigoris Giarelis, the guitarist of Battle Symphony is an important chapter, because he managed to transform my music ideas in to real music. Of course, Ektoras Tsolakis, our producer, was the missing part of this puzzle. And here we are!

Can you introduce the band-members one by one?

I am going to need some time, because it’s not a typical metal band. Battle Symphony is a metal project, with the participation of a variety of singers and musicians. Amongst others Roberto Tiranti (Labyrinth), Daniel Heiman (ex – Lost Horizon) Nicholas Leptos (Arrayan Path, ex – Warlord), Tasos Lazaris (Fortress Under Siege), Dee Theodorou (Illusory), Grigoris Giarelis (Badd Kharma), Hector.d (Mahakala), Gus Drax (Sunburst,Suicidal Angels, and Black Fate), Stathis Pavlantis (Reflection), Julian Küster (Black Eden), George Halliwell (Fortis Ventus), Felipe Del Valle (Delta) and Katie Johnson.

You guys call yourself Battle Symphony. How did you come up with this name and what does it mean?

The first name of the band was Silent Symphony, but then I considered “silent and metal”? No way! So i tried to find something similar to our music and then came up with Battle Symphony. I think it describes our music in the best possible way!

Can you tell me something about the journey this far? Where did the creativity come from for your first “own work” and who (if any) did inspire you?

It is a beautiful metal journey, with a real hidden treasure at the end! I already found pieces of this “treasure” on the road, the unbelievable people I met all around the world! I am a fan of Ayreon as I admire the concept albums of Arjen Luckassen and I always wanted to do something in his veins. A concept album, a metal opera with the participation of many artists. I wanted to tell a story out there, to send a different message. A message of peace. Although we play Epic Symphonic Metal, I think that there aren’t so obvious influences on ‘War on Earth’. As a fan, I adore Iron Maiden, Manowar, Savatage, Angra, Royal Hunt, Ayreon, Atlantean Kodex, Arrayan Path… Too many bands to be honest.

What are the goals with Battle Symphony?

Well, we are just at the starting line. So the dreams are always big! There isn’t a border when you dream, is there? Our first goal is to give something to the fans that they will like. That will be a first “win”.

Are there are singles/ an album coming up?

The first album of Battle Symphony is called “War On Earth” and will be released at May 15th through Soman Records. We already uploaded our first single, called “Fire On Earth”.

Do you have any festivals/gigs/shows planned?

Unfortunately, it is too difficult to make plans for a live gig. Maybe in the future, but for the moment it is not possible.

Yeah with such a line up, I can imagine it can be hard to get them all together at the same time for a live show!
For now, I want to thank you for your time and on behalf of the entire crew at Maizter Underground we want to wish Battle Symphony all the best with all you take on in the future!
