Impossible is not a word in the collective dictionary of PHENOMY, a Metal band from Lebanon gaining critical acclaim through hard work and dedication that has once again shone a light on the state, and strength of global metal. Formed in 2014 by Loic El Haddad (Lead guitars, Composer) and Rudy Bejjani (Drums) primarily to fuel the excitement and inspiration gained from their early influences such as Metallica, Pantera and In Flames.
Hey, thanks for taking the time for an interview with Maizter Underground!
How are you doing? Covid and all.
Thanks for having us. We are doing well. We have been doing the best with what we have, we took the time to realign and recreate ourselves like we always did. But all this time in quarantine made us dig deeper and we really made the most out of it.
How did the band came to exist?
Phenomy started in late 2014, where two childhood friends just decided to share the music they have been writing in their small basement to the world. And today we are one of the most successful middle eastern bands and we are proud of what we have achieved so far.
Can you introduce the band members one by one?
· SAM FELFLY – VOCALS, RHYTHM GUITAR
· LOIC EL HADDAD – LEAD GUITAR
· PETER AOUN – BASS GUITAR
· RUDY BEJJANI – DRUMS
You guys call yourself Phenomy. How did you come up with this name and what does it mean?
Well almost all the names that you can think of that fit this kind of music are already taken. But we wanted something that was more versatile and meaningful. Phenomy comes from the word Phenomenal but the word itself doesn’t mean anything other than it’s a bunch of dudes making heavy music and we just liked the sound of it. We think it can fit any kind of music we might want to make now and in the future.
Can you tell me something about the journey this far? Where did the creativity come from for your first “own work” and who (if any) did inspire you?
We initially were pretty much inspired by bands like Metallica, Pantera, In Flames, Iron Maiden etc. And this is what we used to play when we were learning our instruments, but I guess we all are not the kind of people that would just be content with playing covers. We definitely needed to take the anger out through our own words and music. We are inspired by lots of topics and personal experiences. When you come from a country like Lebanon, it’s not the happiest and coolest place in the world to live in. Our music expresses that, all that darkness and anger. We think that everyone can relate to that, it goes the same pretty much everywhere in the world.
What are the (longtime) goals with Phenmoy?
We are just happy to keep on doing what we do, this is the main goal. To be able to produce new music and tour the world with it. Whatever we get from it is a plus.
Are there are singles/ an album coming up?
We just released our new album Syndicate Of Pain and we will be releasing two new music videos from that album in the upcoming months and we are very excited about it.
Do you have any festivals/gigs/shows planned?
We are hitting the road pretty soon. We are playing a show in Lebanon on April 9th and Czech Republic on August 20th at Rock Castle Festival.
Ah That’s cool!
For now, thank you for your time, and on behalf of everyone at Maizter Underground we want to wish Phenomy all the luck with all you take on the future!
