Brief interview with Crosson

Hailing from Australia, CROSSON has been around for a while. With over 20 years of experience and having released several albums, CROSSON has built quite a name for themselves as these “Aussies” brings an energetic and lively Rock and Roll sound to the block! With a new album in the works, I had a nice little talk with CROSSON frontman Jason Crosson.

Hey, thanks for taking the time for an interview with Maizter Underground!
How are you doing?

Thanks for having me. All well DownUnder!! We are busy preparing the next chapter of CROSSON which includes a new album and videos as well as booking shows and all the PR.

How did the band came to exist?

I started the band 20 years ago with the concept of having 2 girls choreographed girls up front dressed in tailored costumes and putting on a hell of a show. After years of writing, demoing, and playing to small audiences, the first album was released in 2004.  However, it took years of trial and error to get our sound, image and stage show to the level it is today. It really wasn’t until our 2016 album Spreading The Rock ‘N Roll Disease when we engaged Duane Baron (Motley Crue, Poison, Alice Cooper etc) as our mixing engineer that we started to get recognized on an international level.

Paul Stanley from KISS said that they put together the band they wanted to see. I took these words of wisdom and constructed what you see today with CROSSON with resepct to costumes, dancers and a thrilling stage show while delivering catchy rock tunes. I mean, everyone wants to see beautiful women on stage!!!

Can you introduce the band-members one by one?

The current lineup is

  • Jason Crosson – Vocals  / Guitar
  • Libby Thirsk – Choreography / Backing Vocals
  • Olivia Scanlan – Choreography / Backing Vocals
  • Marco Rado – Lead & Rhythm Guitar
  • Kyle Barr – Drums
  • Jack Barret – Bass

You guys call yourself CROSSON. How did you come up with this name and what does it mean?

CROSSON is actually my surname. If it’s good enough for Van Halen, Dokken, DIO, Keel, Vandenberg etc, then I guess it ok if I do it also😊. Even at school I knew I’d have a band called CROSSON one day and we still use the logo I designed back then.

Can you tell me something about the journey this far? Where did the creativity came from for your first “own work” and who (if any) did inspire you?

Being stung by the Rock N Roll Disease as a kid after discovering KISS, then a few years later Motley Crue and the whole 80s glam metal scene, topped off with seeing Iron Maiden on the World Slavery Tour, I was hooked and know this is what I wanted to do.

As for first own work, I’ve been writing songs since I was 14. It was actually by mistake as I didn’t have a very good ear to work out songs ( and still don’t to this day) so I ended up on a different tangent writing music instead of playing other people’s songs.

The first CROSSON album was released in 2004, however it took many years of trial and error to get our sound, image and stage show to the level it is today. It really wasn’t until our 2016 album Spreading The Rock N Roll Disease when we engaged Duane Baron (Motley Crue, Poison, Alice Cooper etc) as our mixing engineer that we started to get recognized on an international level.

Here we are many years about to release our 6th studio album.

What are the (longtime) goals with CROSSON?

To keep on making and delivering great music and perform our theatrical stage show to the masses for as long as possible.

Are there are singles/ an album coming up?

We have just completed the recording of the new CROSSON album which is currently being mixed in the USA by Duane Baron. This will be released the latter half of 2022 and is titled Ready, Aim…. ROCK!!. So, the next few months is going to be filled with making videos, completing artwork, and doing shows.

Do you have any festivals/gigs/shows planned?

We’ve got lots of things in the pipeline so keep an eye on our socials. For those that haven’t seen us live, we have the CROSSON  – Live at The Orpheum concert video which was released in 2021 and shows us in our live theatrical element.

A lot of things are in the works than! That sounds promising! For now, I want to thank you for your time and on behalf of everyone at Maizter Underground we want to wish all the best with all you guys take on in the future.
