What started out as an idea back in 2014 quickly grew into a full-fledged band. Marianna and Ody founded Project Renegade and where soon joined by Philip and Jay. Their well-received E.P. Cerebra was followed by the full length debut album named Order of the Minus. Hailing from beautiful Greece, Project Renegade has shared the stage with some “big players” and build a loyal fan-base throughout the last couple of years. In 2022 a brand new album will be released and several festivals and concerts are planned. To learn more about Project Renegade and what the future holds for them, I sat down for a nice talk with Marianna!
Hey Marianna, thanks for taking the time for an interview with Maizter Underground!
How are you doing? Covid and all.
Hello and thank you for the interview! We are really great, had our first show some weeks ago since the pandemic hit so we feel fully energized. We have also released a new music video from our upcoming album so we are really existed about the new era that we are about to step into.
How did the band came to exist?
Ody and I started forming the idea back in 2014 for making a band with a strong message that would reflect our musical taste. We started slowly and humbly first with our EP Cerebra in 2017,when we officially became a band. Followed by Order of the Minis in 2019 and now with our new album Ultra Terra due for release in 2022.
Can you introduce the band-members one by one?
Sure thing!
Ody is playing the drums and Philip is our guitarist! Jay plays the bass and I am (Marianna) the leadsinger for Project Renegade!
You guys call yourself Project Renegade. How did you come up with this name and what does it mean?
When we started Project Renegade we had serious difficulties in finding members so at first we weren’t really a band, More like a duo, a musical project. We were a bit stuck at that time and we decided to put Project in our name. Renegade is our state of mind as people, a reflection of our mentality and the fact that we go against the current `artistically and personally values’.
Can you tell me something about the journey this far? Where did the creativity came from for your first “own work” and who (if any) did inspire you?
The journey has been really difficult, but full of new experiences and rewards! We have shared the stage with bands like Evanescence and Bullet For My Valentine, we have written a lot of music and we have met a lot of people along the way. Our inspiration comes from our everyday lives and what we experience in our society, our psychology, books, movies and conversations. When it comes to inspiration from other artists we really love Korn, Slipknot, Limp Bizkit, Deftones, SOAD, In this Moment, Lacuna Coil, Evanescence, The Architects, Gojira, Devin Townsend and many others!
What are the (long-time) goals with Project Renegade?
Our goal is to spread our message as far as possible, to continue evolving our music, to travel the world and communicate with people from different countries. We really want to expand our musical family and create a safe haven for everyone!
Are there are singles/ an album coming up?
Yes our new album Ultra Terra will be released in 2022 and we just released our first single The Fix Is In from it!
Do you have any festivals/gigs/shows planned?
Yes of course! We will have a busy schedule up until the end of the summer festival season if everything goes well with the pandemic. We have announced only one show so far with Within Temptation and Lacuna Coil and there are more to come!
That sounds promising! By the looks of it, you guys have a busy year ahead! I will keep a close eye on you, and I hope we talk a little more once Ultra Terra is released!
