A talk with Oracle’s Eye

Metal music has a wide variety of genre’s and subgenre’s. From all over the world bands cease to exist while other bands make their first steps on the metal podiums. The times metal music hailed mostly from Western Europe and the USA is long past us and nowadays we see metalbands emerge on all continents bringing their own style and music to the block. One of those bands is Oracle’s Eye. Emerged in the middle of the Covid pandemic, these 4 metalheads hailing from India have come together to bring the world their own unique sound. I got the honour to have a little chat with Prince, one of the foundingmembers of Oracle’s Eye.

Hey, thanks for taking the time for an interview with Maizter Underground!
How are you doing?

We are doing great Patrick, it’s a pleasure for all of us to be here.

How did the band came to exist?

Actually me ( i.e. Prince ) and Baron conceptualized a prog project featuring artists from different genres in August of 2020 during the covid pandemic, at that time I was in a regional alt rock band, but then in November 2021 due to some internal ideological mismatches my previous band was decommissioned. Deun and Ron were my bandmates from that band actually and in December 2021 we formed this setup with an intention to change something in the scene. We decided our name in January 2022, on 12th most probably.

Can you introduce the band-members one by one?

Sure, I’m Prince ( vocalist and lead guitarist ), Baron ( drummer and supporting vocals ), Ron ( bass guitarist, also takes care of the classical stuff ) and Deun ( guitarist ).

You guys call yourself Oracle’s Eye. How did you come up with this name and what does it mean?

Actually we had multiple ideas regarding the name of the band, all in all our goal was to showcase the complexity and elegance of the genre that we are working on along with a sense of wisdom and literature through the name. Oracle’s Eye was actually the 3rd one on our top 10 list, but we stuck to it anyway.

We chose it for its simplicity yet it carries  a meaningful purpose, Oracle’s Eye is the gateway to the knowledge beyond normal perception, where past present and future doesn’t matter anymore, time is irrelevant, creation and destruction is the only truth.

You guys hail from India. Do your roots find a way into your music?

Kinda, our music is moderately influenced by the concepts for core Indian classical as my journey of music started with core Indian classical.

Can you tell me something about the journey this far? Where did the creativity came from for your first “own work” and who (if any) did inspire you?

Well it’s absolutely mesmerising to be able to work on stuff of your dreams, for us heavily experimental music is what we crave for and so far the journey did have ups and downs. A few funny ones actually as in our scene the concept of metal is influenced by some particular subgenres. Thus we found it a bit tough to explain what “mathcore” with “neoclassical” and “symphony” add-ons means. But yeah people are opening up to new experiences, and we have high expectations for the future.

And talking about inspiration, yeah we follow bands like Dream Theater, Opeth, Tool, King Crimson, The Aristocrats, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Porcupine Tree a lot.

What are the (long-time) goals with Oracle’s Eye?

We want to cross boundaries, on a huge scale, both in terms of knowledge and regions globally, and shape the future of mathcore as the first ever Neo-Symphonic Mathcore band in India.

Are there are singles/ an album coming up or just released?

We have planned 3 more singles for this year, the are chronologically “A Savior’s Dream”, “Words Of Time” and “The Undone”. “A Savior’s Dream” will be releasing in about a month actually through Riff River Records.

Do you have any festivals/gigs/shows planned?

We definitely have, we are almost ready to hit the big stages here nationally, and we will be performing live from October.

Well, by the sound of it you guys have busy times ahead! Great to hear!! We will eagerly await the new upcoming single!
For now and on behalf of everyone at Maizter Underground, I want to thank you Prince for your time and to all the bandmembers and all involved with Oracle’s Eye I want to say, Good Luck with all you guys take on!

Oracle’s Eye has released its debut single A Thousand Doors on the 21st of May 2022. For Maizter Underground I had the honor to review the single and I must confess I was hugely impressed by what this talented group of metalheads had produced.
