In 2018 Germany based singer Andrea Weiss found herself at a crossroad. After disbanding her former band, Weiss felt she wasn’t done with music. Weiss joined forces with a former bandmate, and together they started writing new material and ultimately forming a new band.
Andy Rocks released their first EP back in 2019 followed by their fell length debut album, which was released to the public on the first of July 2021. About this album, covid and a lot more, I had a great talk with the band!
Hey, thanks for taking the time for an interview with Maizter Underground!
How are you doing? Covid and all.
Hey, hi everybody! All in all we are doing fine, thanks. About Covid – same shit as last year, no shows allowed around here right now. We have 2 shows in December, but we think they will be cancelled. We were really looking forward to play live again, but it looks like we will have to wait a little longer…But we cannot change it.
Andrea, How did the band came to exist?
I started this project in 2018. After my former band Black Daffodils stopped, I wanted to continue creating music. Since I always loved rock music it should have another musical direction than with the band before. I looked for musicians to join me. Markus, who also was part of Black Daffodils, was ready to rock, so we started working on songs. Later I asked Andreas and Stoney Dee to join the band. The first EP was out in 2019 and in summer 2021 we released our first record Look at what we’ve done.
Can you introduce the band-members one by one?
Hey, I am Andrea and I’m the the front lady! Singing is a big passion of mine -especially Rock and Roll songs. – you know, Rock and Roll will never die!
The Name’s Stoney Dee (Andre) , and you gotta believe me the name fits the agenda… Dee is the name of my father who went to war with alcohol in the year 1985 – lost a few limbs back then but still managed to get my mother pregnant back in 1993. Thankfully I still got all of my limbs attached. Would be difficult to play the guitar otherwise… I play the guitar by the way. I usually waste my free time by earning money as an engineer. Hope I can set this hobby soon aside to spent more time with my real vocation – playin’ cricket.
Markus is my name and I am playing the drums. Favourite thing is playing drums and drinking beer or drinking beer and playing drums! Before booking some shows for bands with drums – and supporting events in the scene where you can hear good music with big drums and you can get some more beers – I also climb for events. Thats the only time I cannot drink beer the day before and on these days. In this time my brain only thinks about climbing the biggest rig’s for bands/events & drumrig’s like Mötley Crew. I am open for all style of music and like to discover new stuff like fresh young energy of bands! But you should hear their drums outloud – because if you can’t hear them it’s not such good music 😉 hahaha
I am Andreas and I am the fresh man on the bass guitar or guitar or vocals. I do everything that I am asked for, I guess. Sometimes I am also the mysterious lead guitarist in the background, but in the end you’ll find me in front of an amp or a bar, influenced by 80s rock music! I also love to dive into some LP’s in the dark, alone with a glass of good whiskey … cheers!
Andrea, you guys call yourself ANDY ROCKS. How did you come up with this name and what does it mean?
My nickname is Andy and I always wanted to play in a rock band. So there was the idea to call it Andy Rocks. Now that we have a new line-up it fits even more because our guitarist is called Andre and our bass player Andreas – we really have 3 Andy’s now 😊
Can you tell me something about the journey this far, Andrea? Where did the creativity came from for your first “own work” and who (if any) did inspire you?
There was no special event or something for us to start writing. We just write songs and now we are doing it together in this band. Unfortunately we were not able to play many live shows jet. When we were ready for that, the shutdowns started and since that time it all is very unsure. Our music is influenced by big rock bands from the 80s and 90s in general.
Well Andrea, what are the (long-time) goals with ANDY ROCKS?
Rocking, drinking and having fun 😉
What are your releases thus far?
Yes, as mentioned before we got one full album

Do you have any festivals/gigs/shows planned?
We have got two shows planned in December but they will probably be cancelled because of Covid I think.
But we are invited to play at the Ladies of Metal Fest 2022 in Athens, Greece so that’s going to be cool!
