Recently in France Etwas emerged. An symphonic female fronted metalband. This four piece outfit released their debut (six track) EP in the midst of the pandemic and are currently hard at work with their debut album. About this, and some other things I had a nice talk with Etwas!
Hey, thanks for taking the time for an interview with Maizter Underground!
How are you doing? Covid and all.
Thanks to you for giving us the opportunity to talk.
We are all fine, afortunally. This pandemic era is so weird but with all these lock downs, we had the opportunity to work hard on new compositions. We hope better days to perform and meet people, to share our music.
Can you introduce yourself and explain your connection with metal(music)?
We are a french symphonic metal band. We have been influenced by “all known” bands of the kind of music, like Nightwish, Epica, Within Temptation but also with more technical and “brutal” metal like Children of Bodom.
We are all between 25 and 35 years old, so we have the same references in metal music. We raised ourselves with this. And surely, we wanted to create ours.
You guys call yourself Etwas. How did you come up with this name?
The namefinding took place in Silver’s (composer and guitar player) house some years ago. He had no idea but wanted something short and easy to remind. “Etwas” means “something” in German. And it is perfect for us because we are only a band among planty of symphonic metal ones.
Can you tell me something about your method of working?
We don’t live near each other, so we have to work on our own. Silver composes the tracks and send them to all of us to discuss about them. After, we work on them and share what we do.
And despite the pandemic, we try to rehearse all together once a month.
What are the (longtime) goals with Etwas ?
We are currently working on a new album which is, for us, the very essence of Etwas. We hope a release as soon as the result is perfect for us. We would like to make some videoclips as well, to show to people who like our music what we wanted to create with this album. And, of course, as all bands, we would love to perform on stage!
Who are influences for Etwas?
Some bands that we discovered lately have influenced us a lot for our album to come. Carach Angren, Candles and Wraiths, Blackthorn, Little Dead Bertha, The Bishop of Hexen are many bands we would like to promote because their music is perfection to us.
Do you visit festivals etc as Etwas?
For now, we are a brand new band. So we didn’t have the luck to visit festivals. But indeed, it is an aim.
