The year 2020 will forever be marked as the year Covid ruled the world and we all had to be in lockdown. During this (first) period of worldwide lockdowns alot of negativity and unrest came to light. However, this period also gave people time and opportunity to create new and amazing things. One of those outbursts of creativity was fueled by Portuguese Jorge Matos who founded Torn Fabriks. A three piece Thrashmetal outfit from Lisbon, Portugal. I had a nice chat with Jorge, about Torn Fabriks, new material and some other things!
Hey, thanks for taking the time for an interview with Maizter Underground!
How are you doing? Covid and all.
Fine and vaccinated, thank you and you?
Im doing fantasticly fine! Thanks! How did the band come to exist?
The band came to exist during the first lock down. Like everyone I was locked and with plenty of time to compose. So I started recording some ideas, later I remember asking Ricardo ( vocals and bass player ) if he was into Old School Thrash metal. It was the beginning
Can you introduce the band members one by one?
Yeah for sure…
Torn Fabriks are Ricardo on Bass and Vocals, Paulo Soares on Drums and me ( Jorge Matos ) on Guitar.
You guys call yourself Torn Fabriks . How did you come up with this name and what does it mean?
It means three old arses playing Old School Thrash metal lol. It could be a kind of a strange name for an Old School Thrash Metal band but it stands for exactly what we are and on the other hand, it quite sounds good and it is easy to memorize.
Can you tell me something about the journey this far? Where did the creativity came from for your first “own work” and who (if any) did inspire you?
Despite the covid situation, it’s a good journey, short one but good, we had a lot of good reviews, positive feedback from the fans, we didn’t expect it at all.
To be honest, I wasn’t expecting anything at all lol.
Creativity came out from all the bands that I’m a big fan of like Testament, Kreator, Destruction, Sodom…and some more!
What are the (longtime) goals with Torn Fabriks ?
Right now we are working on our first full length. But the main goal it’s to play live as much as possible.
Are there singles/ an album coming up?
Yeah, there’s a new single on the way and possibly it would come out as a lyric video. The song’s name is Rise or Fall, and it’s gonna be an advance song from the upcoming album.
We hope it will be out in October, no label for now, but probably we will work with the same one that released our debut Ep ” Mind Consumption “
Do you have any festivals/gigs/shows planned?
No, we are focused on the recording process right now. As you see we’re very busy and strongly motivated.
